FIFTY3 FRIDAYS: SUMMER BREAK
Week 2 of our summer break finds me back in Blighty but missing the relative quietude of Menorca. We will be back with the usual format next Friday and have some goodly tracks lined up for you plus a short report on last night’s album launch in darkest Croydon by South London lovelies, The Music of Sound. Meanwhile here is last month’s Playlist for you plus a couple of videos to help keep the seat warm.
FIFTY3 FRIDAYS SPOTIFY PLAYLIST JULY 2024
For your listening pleasure on the first Friday of each month, I publish a Playlist on Spotify which includes all the songs featured in this column over the previous month – in order, for the organised mind. Well, this isn’t the first Friday but you get the drift. Holidays and all that. Our Fifty3 Fridays Spotify Playlist July 2024 includes the 31 songs from the month’s Fifty3 Fridays which is bloated by three days of Glastonbury featured songs. July’s Playlist opens with the Squeeze classic “Up The Junction” and closes with the heartfelt “The Space He Left” by singer-songwriter Leah Haworth.
There are 4 years-worth of said Playlists on my Spotify page so it is high time you followed me @TonyHardy53.
Before the holiday we had been watching the detectives; in this case The Turkish Detective, a series based on the novels of Barbara Nadel which we have rather taken to. The theme song ain’t half bad either – “Bir Seyler” by Turkish indie pop artiste TurkodiRoma is the kind that refuses to leave, unlike the various suspects who attend the police station for interview.
Not to be confused with Los Angeles’ Occasionally Human whose splendid “Sheet Ghost” I featured in May, I came across Norwegians Occasional Dreams and this track, “Shimmer In Your Eye” accidentally on YouTube and then discovered that the five-piece had equally randomly had its music removed from other streaming platforms. The band has an album, To The City, out in October by which time I do hope its music will be available everywhere.
